So what will my next project car be? This was a really difficult question. The plans for buying a small day to day car was something of the past. I was thinking of maybe buying another Golf 5 GTI, but the issues were they would all have high mileage. Then I started looking at getting a Golf 6 GTI, this would be a much better buy. The problem that I had is how much money I would have to spend to even get close to what I had with the Golf 5 GTI.
Then a light went on, what about a Golf 6R? They are a bit more expensive than a Golf 6 GTI, but the performance levels standard is a lot closer to what I had. Even the brakes on the Golf 6R are a lot closer to what I had on the Golf 5 GTI.
Finding a new car.
Till now my mind wasn’t made up. The issue was finding a good Golf 6R that isn’t too expensive. As the Golf 6R was more of a limited edition car here they were not that available. I had 2 cars on my list now. It would be either a Golf 6 GTI or a Golf 6R. I would settle for a Golf 6 GTI if I could not get a Golf 6R.
I phoned my friend who was in the car retail business and asked him to have a look around for cars that are available. It was about 2 days before I got a call back from him. He phoned me very excited. They just had a trade-in on a white 2011 Golf 6R. The car was in great condition and was well looked after. The previous owner used the car as a weekend car only so the kilometers on the car were fairly low for its age.
As I didn’t have a car to drive and I couldn’t drive due to my injury on my hand they organized someone to come pick me up to go view the car. The Golf 6R was an absolute beaut. I just had to have this car. They worked out a deal for me and I got it at a good price. With the insurance money that paid out for the Golf 5 GTI, I had enough money for a nice deposit on the Golf 6R.
Delivery of the Golf 6R!
It was a few days later and all paperwork and payments was done. The delivery day had arrived. I still didn’t have a way to go collect the car so they dealer delivered the car at my home. When I saw the car standing in my driveway for the first time that was the best feeling ever.
The Golf 6R that I got was the one with the normal seats and the standard suspension. One great thing was it was DSG. As my left hand was still out of action I could drive this car. You just put it into drive and you go.
The car had a protective film on the nose of the car. The bumper bonnet and fenders were covered. The headlight and rear light on the car had a tint film on it which gave the car a bit more of an aggressive look. It was great to have a nice car again.
Now the fun can start again…
